I’ve been planning this card for a while, but I have been delaying it because I wasn’t sure I could pull off this style. I grabbed some books from the library and just looked at the amazing paintings from the Art Treasures of Seikado collection. Simply amazing stuff… So here’s another design for Something Green, it’s the first card I painted using Painter.

My February entry for Drawing Challenge.

I wanted to challenge myself this month. I was going to do a cell shaded style and that is why I started in Illustrator. I changed my mind and decided I wanted to try an even scarier challenge – acrylics in Painter. My favorite part about this drawing is the old woman, she was so fun to draw and color. My least favorite part would probably be the hands. Illustrator is great for clean and smooth lines, but I find it hard to draw more intricate parts like hands and eyes. My goal for next month is to focus more on the drawing. I think I need a lot of work on anatomy and posing.

Media: Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter, Photoshop (in that order)

An old character I use to draw when I was 15. He was one of Julia’s characters. A messenger boy named Errand I think. My third Painter drawing. I didn’t spend too much time on this one. I am still trying to find a colouring technique that I like. For Snowpea I used markers, for Errand I used blending brushes.

I tried Painter for the first time. So many brushes! There is a lot to learn, so far I don’t like it more than Photoshop.

This is Tom Cruise, my favourite unicorn from Planet Unicorn. Like my calligraphy? I picked up that skill in Grade 5. Check out Planet Unicorn on Youtube.
